During KidsFest, the STAR Center’s Learning Lab held a drawing for a free STAR Wars Jedi Force Trainer. We are pleased to announce that Libby Johnson won this prize! Congratulations to Libby! And Thank you to all of the people who entered that contest.
You may wonder why we gave away a Star Wars toy? Well because some of the same technology that helps this fun toy set run, is the same technology we use to help students learn to focus with our PLAY Attention software. If you know a student who is having trouble paying attention, we may be able to help. For more information about PLAY Attention and our other Learning Lab services please contact us! firstname.lastname@example.org or 731-668-3888.
Saturday was KidsFest. It went off without a hitch except for a little rain. But for most of the morning a hot air balloon was flying over the fairgrounds and children were running around the fairgrounds having a great time. We would like to thank our major sponsors: LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital and First South Bank/FSB insurace. To see a full list of sponsors be and sure and visit this link. To recognize the dedication of our out going Board President, the STAR Center did something creative and commissioned an original painting by Chase Rice. Janie Giles Carp, the STAR Center Art Therapist, reached out to Chase and he happily agreed to paint for this special occasion. Linda Poole, Chase’s mom, said Chase was very excited to work on this project. Chase went to work during his art therapy sessions at the STAR Center and created the beautiful piece with reds, blues, and purples you see above. Linda describes Chase’s work as modernistic and says “He is a thinking-outside-of-the-box kinda’ guy”. The family calls this piece “A River Runs Through It”.
The recipient of the art, Mike Hewitt of Alexander Thompson and Arnold, just finished his second term as the President of the Board. Mike has been serving on the STAR Center board since 2001 and will continue to do so even though his service as president has come to the end.
The STAR Center is thankful for both Chase’s art and Mike’s service. Please join us in Thanking them both!
